Nexus 5 Release date, Specs, Leaked Photos and info

Google's nexus series is the official series of Android OS from Google. Since now, there are 4 Official Nexus Phones and 3 Nexus tabs. Rumors and conjecture have been floating around for much of the summer, and now details seem to be falling into place quickly for the updated flagship Android smartphone. Don't look now, but the LG Nexus 4 successor is expected to make its formal debut by the end of this month.


Still Google Isn't announced a bit of information about the new nexus mobile. At least, they didn't announced the release date! Here's what's expected and what still remains uncertain.

What we expect

October reveal date
We're still waiting for Google to send out invitations, but multiple sources point to an October unveiling for the Nexus 5. According to a TechRadar report, Google will announce and ship the phone in the last week of the month. Other sources, while not quite as specific, have alsomentioned an October introduction.

This fits into Google's pattern as well. Last year's Nexus upgrade was also scheduled for the early autumn time frame, before Hurricane Sandy's interference pushed back the date.

Android 4.4 KitKat
The Nexus 5 should be the first smartphone to run Android 4.4 KitKat, Google's next OS iteration, out of the box. Google has already formalized the platform, but the details are a complete mystery. The fall time frame falls in line with previous platform releases; Android 4.0 came in October 2011, and Android 4.2 showed up in November 2012.

LG will make it
All signs point to Google again calling upon LG as the hardware maker of choice for the Nexus smartphone line. Documents found in the FCC tell of a model called LG D820 with specifications not entirely unlike the G2's, which is the source we expect the Nexus 5 to stem from.

Biggest Nexus yet
The Nexus 5 should have a 4.96-inch screen, which would make it the largest Nexus smartphone to date. We should look for the same 1,920x1,080-pixel HD display as the G2's, which equals a 444-pixel density.

Body shape
Thus far, leaked images suggest that the Nexus 5 will maintain a form factor that doesn't stray far from the LG Nexus 4's. Early photos of the device, however, do not show the same design flourish or patterns on the rear.

Hardware
The Nexus 5 should be able to hold its own against the competition thanks to the quad-core 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU. Bolstered by 2GB of RAM, LTE support, and NFC capability, the handset is expected to employ wireless charging capability and a 2,300mAh battery. Leaked benchmarks results have the Nexus 5 outperforming all other Android devices and rivalingApple's iPhone 5S.

A 16GB Nexus 5 could sell for $299 and include a 2,300mAh battery, while a 32GB model could come equipped with a 3,000mAh cell battery and retail for $399. Additional storage via microSD is atypical of Nexus smartphones; a recently leaked manual made no reference of the external slot.

Carrier support
FCC documents indicate that the Nexus 5 is equipped for penta-band HSPA+ and multiple LTE bands and should support all four major carriers in the US: Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint. This could mark the first time that Google is able to offer one device across all top-tier carriers.

Lingering questions

For all that we think we know, there are a few details that need clearing up.

The name
Given that Google pulled the old switcheroo on us with Android 4.4 KitKat (which had previously been confirmed as Key Lime Pie), we shouldn't rule out a name change for the upcoming smartphone. It does mark the fifth-generation Nexus handset, and it should have a 5-inch display. With that said, we should still keep our guard up for a last-minute audible. Nexus G, anyone?

Camera technology
If the Nexus 5 is based on LG's G2 smartphone, then we may see the optical image stabilization (OIS) technology found in the camera. Google likes to introduce new camera features with Android releases, and OIS could make for a compelling user experience.

Price
As one of the most important questions for any device, the cost of the Nexus 5 still remains unclear. Historically, Google has offered its Nexus models unlocked with an attractive price point that falls below much of the competition. There is no indication yet that Google would go in a different direction for the new flagship, though pricing is an important question for contract carriers.

Sales model
If history is an indicator, Google will sell the Nexus 5 two ways. One is via the Google Play store, where customers can buy the phone unlocked or choose a wireless provider. The other will likely be through the carriers themselves, as with the Nexus 4 on T-Mobile. This time around, it's more likely that we'll see the top-tier carriers sell the device at the outset, rather than as a limited exclusive.

Will Your Phone getting Android 4.4 Kitkat ?

Kitkat will be the new baby to the Android family soon. It was recently announced officially by Google and will launch before end of the year with the newest Nexus 5. Most people are waiting to get this sweet KitKat.
But it would always be a guessing game for the users, to see whether the 4.4 update would be coming to their device or not. With most of the high-end devices that were launched recently, one can easily expect that they would be receiving the KitKat update, but for the earlier devices, you will have to wait to see whether the manufacturer is deciding to send the update and whether the device hardware would be able to support it.

Samsung Phones to get Android 4.4 Update

For now, there is an internal Samsung Knox document which was leaked, and which showed a few devices which are going to get the Android 4.4 update, and the document actually showed the devices which would get the Samsung Knox in the coming update. The devices are as follows:

• Samsung Galaxy S4
• Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom
• Samsung Galaxy S4 Active
• Samsung Galaxy Note 3
• Samsung Galaxy Mega (no confirmation whether the 5.8, 6.3 or both)
• Samsung Galaxy S3
• Samsung Galaxy Note II
• Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini
• Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 & Tab 2

The Galaxy S3 and Note II have been facing a few regional lock issues and that is what is prompting Samsung to come up with a major update on these devices, as confirmed by one of the Samsung representatives. But again, the document mentions it is the S3 which has 2GB of RAM, and that is the U.S. version which might be getting the update, and the International users might have to wait and watch if Samsung has made it ready for their devices too or not.

Sony Phones to get Android 4.4 Update

There was a recent leak showing that the Sony Xperia Z1, the latest flagship device from the company, might be getting the Android 4.4 update and this is quite more than just rumors because Sony won’t be ignoring this year’s flagship models while preparing the updates. Here’s a list of devices:

• Sony Xperia Tablet Z
• Sony Xperia Tablet S

The Xperia Z1 has still got the Android 4.2 version, and hasn’t got the 4.3 update, but if Sony decides to skip that and goes directly to the 4.4 KitKat version, that should be a good news to the users waiting for an update.

HTC Phones to get Android 4.4 Update

The HTC One Max is to be announced very soon, and that should be anyways getting the update after the launch, but the devices which are expected to get the Android 4.4 KitKat update after its launch, includes HTC One.

LG Phones to get Android 4.4 Update

We did hear that the LG Optimus G Pro might be receiving the update a little later, but the LG G2, latest flagship smartphone from the company is sure to get the KitKat version of Android very soon after the launch.

Use Sound Frequency to Share Files Between Two Phones - Chirp

I know you won't believe this magic. I also didn't believed this till I try myself. It's actually a magic! It's fun to share files between phones now.

For this, you need two smartphones. Apple iOS or Google Android.

The software uses two matching sound frequencies to connect the phones. If the two phones have the same surrounding sounds, then you can "Chirp" between these two.

As I tried, the phones should be near around 3 meters. Because, if the phone  s are not closer, the sounds each phone gets is different than the other one.

Let's get serious here. The app really don't share files between phones via audio frequencies. It only uses the sound frequencies to match the two phones. Chirp uses Internet connection on your phones to share files. So, I don't think it's a better idea to share large files from Chirp if you have no data packages in active.

New Nokia ad says Samsung wants to copy Lumia 1020?

You, I am sure, will be excited to see parachutists.

I don't want to keep you from this joy. There are lots of wonderful flying people in this ad. Just as there were in a certain Google Glass, um, skydiving stunt.

This is all allegedly shot on a Nokia Lumia 1020 which, I believe, is another great Nokia camera with a nice phone attached.

And there's nothing wrong with that.

I am, however, disturbed by the ending of this piece. For after the descent of the flyers carrying the new phone to Dubai (en route to its destination at the Nokia World event on October 22 in Abu Dhabi), there is a strange coda.

Here we have a man of apparently Asian origin sitting in the back of an SUV, looking mysterious.

He is outside what appears to be the exhibition hall. His intentions do not appear to be entirely honorable.

Though I believe the objective interpretation of art to be entirely meaningless, I asked some relatively intelligent people what they thought this ending might mean.

Here is one response that was repeated several times: "That's Samsung, ready to steal it and copy it."

I wouldn't wish to besmirch Samsung's reputation, until Judge Lucy Koh has offered her definitive judgment on whether the company is, truly, a duplicator or not.

Besides, not everyone thought this gentleman might be from Samsung. One intelligent being told me: "There's a gong at the end. So that must be Huawei." (I can only assume that this being felt the gong sounded more Chinese than Korean.)

Is it truly possible that Nokia would depict Samsung or Huawei as nefarious? After all, at CES2013, Huawei had a rather heavy presence of security heavies, allegedly there to protect its own intellectual property.

I refuse to leap from the fence. So, perched on its splinters, I contacted Nokia to ask whether this was, indeed, the rough meaning of the coda: that an Asian competitor was there, ready to steal and copy this very fine phone.

Should I hear from Nokia, I will copy you on my reply.

In the meantime, perhaps there are students of art criticism loitering here, who would like to offer their modernist interpretation.

The ad itself promises that there are more episodes to this tale. Might this include a Tarantino-directed fight between this shifty man and, say, angry Finns?

Android 4.3.1 Rolled out! Soon on your nexus too!

It's not a long time since Google Released Android 4.3 officially. After that, Google was releasing some minor updates to their latest mobile operating system. So, yesterday, they released another one. It's the second minor update to the OS. It's Android 4.3.1. Nexus 7 latest device owners are the first to taste this update.

The update came with the usual stability fixes and bug patches. What’s interesting however is that Google has already launched a few of those update and fixes without incrementing the version number, so this likely has some deeper changes that we’re yet to explore.

The update has rolled out over the air and should arrive to your device soon, if it hasn't yet. It weighs 9.42MB and keeps the radio version of the device the same.
